Affortunato Gory “Oriental Dancer”

This is one of the most famous chryselephantine statues by Affortunato Gory.
He worked in his statues with the contrast between the gilded bronze and the white ivory.
It is written that the dancer represents Maud Allan in her role as Salome by Oscar Wilde who gave dance performances in 1906. This dancer had designed the clothes herself.
She holds up one arm and throws the dress up behind her. And with the other hand she holds the dress up above her left foot.
With one foot she rests on a white onyx pedestal.
